CRESTON JUNE 6th- The KSIB 6 th Annual Tractor Ride was held last Saturday. We had a new record of registrants for the ride this year. Mike Jackson was the winner of the free set of tires from Titan Tires. The ride went from Creston to Russell farms north of Prescott. Jerry Russell had been a long time rider and supporter of the tractor ride and was honored by a magnet which every registered rider received as part of their registration package.

His tractor was on display as many family members were on hand and several also rode. From there riders found there way to Carl before returning to Creston for the 56 mile ride. KSIB would like to thank all the sponsors and especially the major sponsors for making this free ride possible.

Greenfield May 22nd — Adair County Health System ACHS is pleased to announce that Nathan Tiwari, MD, will begin his family practice at the Adair County Medical Clinics. Tiwari will begin seeing patients the first part of August He will also be providing emergency room and inpatient services for Adair County Memorial Hospital.

Tiwari has experience in managing acute and chronic diseases at every stage of life. He received his education from the University of Minnesota, Ross University and Johns Hopkins University. Tiwari is currently from Minnesota. He will be relocating to the area with his wife and four children in July. Accordiung to Tiwari, after four years of being in Emergency Medicine, he wanted to look into rural family practice medicine in Iowa.

Lamoni May 18th — Iowa state troopers reported yesterday morning around 7: A second vehicle, a jeep cherokee, driven by 16 year old Gracelyn Martin of Lamoni, was east bound on th street and collided with the drivers side of Gilliland vehicle.

The driver of the pick up Logan Gilliland was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of his pickup 14year old Landon Gilliland was ejected from the vehicle and was transported by Life Flight to Methodist Hospital. Martin was transported to Decatur county Hospital by ambulance. DES MOINES MAY 18TH — Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey today said that many strawberry growers across the state are predicting a bumper crop and encouraged Iowans to take advantage of these delicious, fresh berries by visiting a local strawberry patch at a local farmers market.

According to Northey, The mild winter and wet spring have created a nearly ideal growing situation for fruits and vegetables in Iowa and strawberries are leading the way.

Strawberries go from bloom to fruit in about 30 days and are best eaten within a few days of being picked. After numerous meetings and discussion the City Council has finally decided on an option for street repairs in Creston.

The Council voted unanimously on option 4 which includes roughly 18 blocks of reconstruction, 18 blocks of overlay, and numerous blocks of seal coat. What did not make the final cut was ELM Street. Austin Smith of Gardner and Associates. I pulled Elm Street out entirely. Total reconstruction on south Chestnut. We also picked up a couple hundred feet on Fremont Street. Then we had a couple different over lay spots in town, Russel Street. Montgomery Street switched to over lay I think we had originally had that as reconstruction.

The project will cost the city nearly 4. Some of the streets could see some repair this summer but a construction time line was not discussed. Next step is to collect bids and then they will need approved before construction begins. A complete map of streets that will be repaired can be found on our web site at www. Des Moines, May 17th — From May 22 — June 4,state and local law enforcement agencies across the nation, as well as Iowa, will be stepping up seat belt enforcement.

Memorial Day weekend kicks off the busy summer season with many more families on the roads. SEAT BELTS ARE THE SINGLE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO SURVIVE IN A CRASH. Pickup trucks will not protect you in a crash if you are not wearing a seat belt.

Sixty percent of pickup truck occupants who were killed were not buckled. That compares to 42 percent of passenger car occupants. Where you sit in the vehicle does not matter. Forty-seven percent of all front-seat passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes were not wearing seat belts, but 57 percent of those killed in back seats were unrestrained.

Des Moines, May 16th — Accessing land is one of the greatest obstacles many Iowa farmers and ranchers face, and new research suggests some are missing out on a program that could help. The Conservation Reserve Program — Transition Incentives Program CRP-TIPallows two years of extra payments for landowners enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program if they rent land to a farmer who is just beginning, socially-disadvantaged or a veteran.

She says they pinpointed some of the factors affecting use of the program — including a lack of awareness about it, the overall farm economy, and a lack of farmer and landowner relationships. Among counties that have higher participation rates, Johnson says the Farm Service Agency staff does additional outreach, which helps link prospective farmers and landowners.

Radio Iowa May 15th -The Iowa DNR is showing a picture of large morel mushrooms on its Facebook page that was sent in by the daughter of the man who found them in southern Iowa. And then we get the bigfoots. The recent discovery of the monster mushrooms fits in with the way the entire season has gone. We had perfect conditions as far as temperatures, daytime, nighttime soil temperatures.

But it was really strange, people were finding greys in southern Iowa while people in central Iowa were finding yellows. The area of the state where you hunt mushrooms could dictate how well you did in finding them. Foster says this weekend may be about the end unless you can find some in the northern part of the state.

Afton, May 10th- The World Food Prize Foundation announced yesterday, that it will send 24 high school students abroad for the Borlaug-Ruan internship program at renowned international research centers and NGOs this summer.

East Union Senior, Mara Weis was selected as one of the 24 students to experience this rare and unique internship opportunity. The rest of the students hail from twelve states and will delve into issues relation to global hunger and poverty, during an eight-week, all-expenses-paid internship in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The unique program, which was created by Dr. Norman Borlaug and John Ruan, Sr. While getting a firsthand view of real and pressing food security issues and nutrition problems in poverty-stricken areas, the students become an integral part of a project, spending time in the lab as well as days or weeks at a time in the field conducting research and interviews, and gathering data.

The Board of Regents is proposing another increase in tuition to make up for state budget cuts.

The board approved a two percent increase in tuition at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa in December based on their previously adopted plan to raise tuition by that amount with a corresponding two percent increase in state funding. But the Iowa Legislature cut funding in February by nearly 21 million dollars and then again in April by nearly ten million dollars due to lagging state tax collections.

The Regents are now proposing tacking on a dollar increase for undergraduate students at the three state schools to make up that difference. They will meet Monday to discuss the tuition increase.

CRESTON May 8th- Creston Fire Department responded to a structural fire on the block of Elm street just north of Creston downtown area, at A garage at N. Elm was engulfed in flames and was extinguished by the Creston Fire Department. The property is owned by Dale Kessler of Creston. The cause of the fire is under investigation. CRESTON May 5th- As part of the Adams Street Reconstruction Project, beginning Tuesday, May 9 thAdams Street will be closed from Bureau Street through Cottonwood Street.

The intersections of McKinley and Adams also Park and Adams Streets also will be closed as part of this project. This closure is anticipated to last through July. The Adams Street bridge project closure from Cottonwood Street to the east will remain in place throughout the Reconstruction Project. Osceola, May 5th- TodayClarke County only has one campsite in a natural setting, but demand was strong enough by both residents and visitors alike to change this fact.

The project consists of 25 campsites, 16 of them back-in sites and 9 of them pull. Use of recycled materials is promised for some of the wood and plastic. A modern shower house will include energy efficiency features. Local civic and youth groups will assist with building fire rings, picnic tables and planting trees. These elements greatly impressed the IDNR application scoring team, which ranked this project third in points.

Des Moines, May 4th — Senior Cali Foglesong, Creston Community Schools, received the Special Education Teacher Scholarship of Iowa in recognition for her academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities and educational goals.

Foglesong has worked with special education students through a program at her high school. Foglesong previously worked at a home for individuals with special needs and enjoyed that experience as well. Foglesong is an honors student and actively participates in school activities including the Future Farmers of America FFA and softball. She is also a member of her local church youth group.

Foglesong plans to attend either Iowa State University or Graceland University and major in Elementary Education with endorsements in reading and Special Education. The awards presentation will be held on May 5 at 1 p. The award will be presented by IASB Executive Director Lisa Bartusek.

A white chevy impala driven by 16 year old Emily Donner of Creston, was north bound on Stone street when she struck 50 year old, Rae Ann Tucker of Creston. Tucker was east bound on Mills street and did not yield the right of way.

Tucker vehicle flipped to the drivers side and then hit the curb and came to rest on its wheels. There were 4 children in Tucker vehicle. Two were transported by ambulance the other two by personal vehicle to Greater Regional medical center. All were treated and released.

Winterset, May 3rd- A third person is now charged in the fire that damaged the Cedar Covered Bridge in Madison County. Madison County Sheriff, Jason Barnes says year-old Alivia Marie Bergmann of Des Moines was arrested in South Carolina on charges of second-degree arson and first-degree criminal mischief in connection with the Cedar Bridge fire on April 15th.

Both have been charged with second-degree arson. Davis has pleaded not guilty. Bergmann is awaiting extradition back to Iowa. The sheriff says no more arrests are expected in the case.

Supervisor Ron Riley had brought a breakfast sandwich and diet pepsi to put in her spot. Several county employees came to the meeting as Dennis Brown called the meeting to order. The first order of business was to honor and remember Supervisor Monday.

Several spoke at the board room and shared stories about Lois. Dennis Brown started the discussion. Lois Monday has earned the thanks of everyone in Union County. She will nopt be forgotten. Sheriff Rick Piel also added some thoughts and memories of Monday. The second thing is how she took care of the county. I guess there is 3 things, that when you would get a phone call from her she would be madder than a wet hen…. County attorney Tim Kenyon added to the memories. Sometimes it was buried a little deeper and sometimes you had to let her calm down before she expressed it.

But when you got down to it, if you let her know she had a valid point and you agreed with her on the end, she would sit down and work with you to try to figure out how to get there. Everyone in the room agreed she would be missed. Supervisor Brown ended the memories with what he thought Lois might have said if she was there. CRESTON MAY 2nd — Warming temperatures and other signs of spring have state park staff busy preparing for the start of the camping season.

Nearly all state parks with campgrounds will offer special programs or activities on May 6, including fishing clinics, fun runs, volunteer projects, special hikes and demonstrations. Those wanting to join the Camping Kickoff celebration are encouraged to make a reservation now. Iowa has more than 4, state park campsites and between 50 and 75 percent of them can be reserved in advance. Green Valley State Park will be hosting the Camping Kickoff event, Planting Pollinators, at Volunteers will be able to come out and help the park staff hand seed to create new pollinator gardens along the paved trail.

Volunteers should bring shoes they can wear off of the trail, light gloves, sunglasses and sunscreen if needed, and some water. There will be a short walk along the trail to the site of the pollinator garden.

Adair May 1st- A wreck on I in Adair county at approximately Both Thoch of Bellevue, Nebraska died as a result of an accident on I 80 near Mile Marker Both was the driver of a nissan sentra when it had unknown mechanical failure and was stopped on I in the right hand lane of the west bound traffic. Both vehicles ended up in the north ditch. Yok was transported to Cass county medical center in Atlantic, 45 year old THOC died as a result of the accident.

DES MOINES MAY 1st — The Chief of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Bureau, Mark Sedlmayr, is retiring on Friday, April 28,after 37 years with the DNR. Sedlmayr has served as the Chief for the past 2. Before becoming the Chief, Sedlmayr served in several different capacities since he began his career with DNR at the age of 19, including: Sedlmayr is a native of Reinbeck, Iowa, and currently resides in Afton.

He and his wife have two sons who both work in law enforcement roles in the conservation field. He looks forward to spending more time with his family during retirement and also hunting, trapping and fishing. Creston April 27th- Union County Engineer Zach Gunsolley deemed one Union County road closed until further notice, due to poor road conditions. Wet Spring conditions could mean it will be some time before the road will be accessible again.

Longtime Creston resident Kay Ritter is one of these individuals and was recognized last year for her contributions by the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Iowa. Thanks to Kay, freshly baked cookies, seasonal decorations, lush plants, sparkling furniture, and greets patients families, and friends as they step through the doors.

As a volunteer with HCI Hospice Care Services, Ritter provides support, companionship and hope to those facing life-limiting illnesses. She is also an active community volunteer.

Property owners or persons in control of any land in Union County will be held responsible for the destruction of Noxious weeds and fines will be assessed to all property owners who fail to do so.

In union county to destroy noxious weeds owners may burn, cut, or otherwise destroy all noxious weeds as defined in Iowa code. Owners who fail to comply and maintain Noxious weed free property could be subject of incurred costs if the Weed Commissioner deems necessary.

Costs include serving notice, expense of said work, and other costs. Anyone wishing not to have noxious weeds sprayed in any given area shall sign an agreement with the County Weed Commissioner Office and shall furnish their own signs to be posted on either side. Those requesting no spray zones will be responsible to destroy such weeds, all season.

Landers recently passed after battling health issues for some time.

Logan Angelo, formerly of Creston and friend to Landers family, works in the front office for the Iowa Barnstormers arena football team. Half of the proceeds from ticket sales to the May 13th game will go to causes Landers chose.

CRESTON, April 21 — Overhauling several deteriorating streets in the city of Creston has been a major discussion point of the city council for a couple months now. The discussion centered around North Elm and East Howard Streets and whether to run a simple overlay versus a full reconstruction on North Elm.

We kind of talked about some options on Elm and we have the ability to put Elm St. The block-by-block option would mean that not all of North Elm would have to be fully reconstructed. This would allow money to be spent on other streets in Creston. After surveying, Smith said the portion of Elm from Howard to Adams has a better base than the blocks north and could remain as is. Smith posed a question that sparked debate. By planning for the future and doing full reconstruction, the longevity of Elm is estimated at 40 years.

Under a simple overlay, the life span is projected at At-large councilman Steve Wintermute disagreed and pointed out that an overlay would make more sense, considering the type of traffic on Elm. I think an overlay would last a fair amount of time. The other major street discussed Tuesday was East Howard, a main route for heavy trucks and farm equipment.

One option presented would overlay Elm and allow East Howard to be reconstructed, with a total of 42 city blocks in the plan. The other option would reconstruct Elm and exclude East Howard altogether and would only improve 31 total city blocks.

Ward 2 councilman Rich Madison brought up the point of cost per block. The more overlays you got, the more blocks you can accomplish, but the more concrete streets you have, the more the longevity is.

Creston Public Works Director Kevin Kruse said that East Howard would be number one on his list for reconstruction. Other streets, that the council generally agreed up on and are in the plans, include: No official decisions have been made on the amount to borrow or specific streets to include in the project as of yet.

However, those votes are expected in May or June. WINTERSET April 20th- Another teen has been arrested in the ongoing arson investigation of a famed Madison County covered bridge. Sheriff Jason Barnes says just before 3pm Wednesday, year-old Joel Nathan Davis of Norwalk was arrested and taken into custody. The arrest comes during an investigation into the Cedar Covered Bridge arson which happened early last Saturday April 15 just north of Winterset.

Winterset April 19th- A teenager is accused of setting one of the famed Madison County covered bridges on fire this weekend. Madison County Sheriff Jason Barnes announced the arrest at a news conference this Tuesday afternoon. Seventeen-year-old Alexander Hoff of West Des Moines is charged with first-degree arson. Barnes refused to discuss motive or what led them to Hoff.

Police and firefighters were sent to the Cedar Bridge near Winterset around 6 a. The same bridge was destroyed in an arson fire back in and was rebuilt. No arrest was made in that previous fire. Barnes would not say how Hoff allegedly started the fire this weekend, but he apparently left behind plenty of evidence. CRESTON, March 30 — A Creston woman sustained minor injuries Monday after being hit by a vehicle during a green stop light. According to the accident report, a semi and trailer were facing south and came to a stop during a red light. A woman, later identified as year-old Trisha Gaiser of Creston, exited the semi. A vehicle in the other southbound lane was passing by the semi as the light turned green.

Gaiser ran in front of the parked semi and directly in front of the other vehicle, driven by year-old Wesley Davis of Fontanelle. Davis applied the brakes and skidded a short distance before striking the female pedestrian. According to the report, Davis had the green light and had no chance to stop before striking Gaiser. The vehicle was not at fault for the accident. Gaiser, the pedestrian, was found to be under the influence of alcohol during the event and was transported to Greater Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.

Austin Smith is a Professional Engineer with Garden and Associates. A total of five bids were received for the project by March Smith says the tearing up and reconstruction of West Adams up to Park Street will not begin until the entire bridge project is complete.

The Adams Street reconstruction will not involve any sanitary lines, but Smith says new storm sewer infrastructure will be installed. A total of 40 working days will be allotted for this project, which do not include weekends.

Smith said the goal would put a completion date in June, but added that weather and other unforeseen circumstances could delay the end date later into the summer. With the Adams Street Bridge project, minor construction work has re-started for the year. The addition of this road project to the current bridge project was first discussed last November as a way to utilize the road already being closed, while also taking the opportunity to improve a city road.

Union County Attorney Tim Kenyon says those seven counts are part of a plea agreement Hartley has accepted in order to avoid the original charge of Murder in the 1 st Degree.

Kenyon says a first degree murder charge brings a mandatory life sentence; however, a second degree murder charge brings a 50 year sentence, with a minimum sentence of 35 years in prison.

According to Kenyon, Hartley acknowledged that she provided the pistol used by Jerry Dillinger to commit both murders of Michael Robinson and Loretta Dillinger in Union County in August and September of Hartley also acknowledged that she gave the pistol to Dillinger KNOWING that he was going use it to commit the murders. As part of the overall event, Hartley also plead guilty to the charges of Conspiracy to Commit Second Degree Arson, Second Degree Arson and First Degree Fraudulent Practice, all class C felonies.

CRESTON, March 20 — An Afton woman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison in connection with a January crash in Union County that killed one woman. A sentencing hearing was held Friday morning for year-old Donna Jo Spare of Afton after she plead guilty to the charge of Vehicular Homicide in February.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, that night, Spare was traveling eastbound on highway 34 when she crossed the center line into the westbound lane, which caused a head-on collision. The other driver, Deanne Hoffman was killed as a result of the collision. Spare was found to be above the legal alcohol limit when she struck Hoffman head-on. Union County Attorney Tim Kenyon says Spare was charged with one count of Vehicular Homicide, a class B felony.

A guilty plea was entered on that and then sentencing followed. Accidents are things that are completely unforeseen, unavoidable.

When Donna Spare elected to drive that day after drinking, there were certain possibilities of events occurring, and tragically they did. The likelihood that someone will be seriously injured or might die, is substantial. With the crash occurring over a year ago, Kenyon says the investigation, accident reconstruction and court process were slowed because of the high volume of other fatal traffic crashes that occurred in Iowa around that time last year.

The larger volume hindered the progress of investigators to complete this case. Charges were eventually filed against Spare in early August last year. Spare is currently being held in a neighboring county jail, until she will be transported to the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women in Mitchellville.

Cross was charged with two felonies: Possession with Intent to Deliver, Child Endangerment. She was also charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and House of Ill Fame. The charges were filed after a deputy found Funke in the basement of an unoccupied home in rural Adair County. Funke admitted to have been staying at the residence on-and-off since December. Upon a search of his person, a small container of methamphetamine was found. Hicks was arrested following a traffic stop about four miles north of Greenfield on Highway Hicks admitted to the deputy that he was trying to roll a marijuana cigarette at the time his vehicle strayed out of the lane.

This time, Garden and Associates, the engineering firm working with the city on this project, came back to the council with specific cost estimates on selected city streets. The last time we met with Mike Taylorand Rich and Kevin, I think we had about streets. It kind of just depends on how much you guys want to do this go-around. The first street project discussed centered around West Howard St. I think, at the time, the city had actually purchased a couple lots to, more or less, restructure that street — make it a little smoother for the horizontal alignment.

The east end of Howard, from the railroad tracks to Osage, is also a busy route. Smith said that portion made the hot list for improvements as well. Most people head north on Osage and then take a left on Howard St. The third major street overhaul in Creston has a price tag larger than the two Howard Street projects combined.

Complete reconstruction of North Elm St. Jack Pope, Professional Engineer with Garden and Associates, told the council that the entire North Elm St. The East Mills project spans six city blocks and also receives heavy truck traffic.

Smith said that project will include portions that need a full reconstruction, and other portions that need a simple overlay. One city block on Bureau St. Other streets included on the preliminary cost estimate map included South Chestnut to highway 34 and East Union St.

Pope told the council that many factors are to be considered when choosing which streets to resurface. However, any decisions on borrowing money or street projects have not been made as of yet.

OSCEOLA, March 9 — A payment arrangement set up between Lakeside Casino, the City of Osceola and the other two incorporated cities in Clarke County is changing on July 1. Ty Wheeler, Osceola City Administrator, says the original arrangement was set up about 20 years ago when Lakeside Hotel Casino was first opening. The first is a half-percent of gross gaming revenue, and that is by state code.

The city Osceola gets it and the county gets that, so half-percent. So, the casino pays a lease of 1. The city made an arrangement to cut the cities of Murray and Woodburn a piece of that lease revenue. This arrangement will be changing for the coming fiscal year.

Wheeler says there were no plans to change that arrangement up until this budget season. MOUNT AYR, March 8 — Strong winds were likely a factor in a fire just outside of Mount Ayr Monday afternoon.

A storage building located on joint highway 2 and just west of Mount Ayr went up in flames around 2pm Monday. The Mount Ayr Fire Department was called out to respond, and Fire Chief Mike Weimer says it took crews about 45 minutes to get put out. CRESTON, March 7 — The departments and functions of Union County will be funded for another year. Monday morning, the Board of Supervisors held a public hearing and subsequent vote on whether to approve the fiscal year budget, which goes into effect this July 1. All three Supervisors voted to approve the budget. Two individuals were present to speak during the public hearing, both of which expressed discontent with secondary roads.

Dennis Brown, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, said last week that the Board tries its best to keep the burden on Union County taxpayers as small as possible. In other news from the supervisors, Union County resident Dick Anderson spoke to the board Monday about the possibility of beginning resurfacing work on th St. County engineer Zach Gunsolley did confirm that the th St. According to the plan, it was included as part of fiscal year Gunsolley said no construction plans for that specific project have been drafted and timing would not pan out for the project to be done this year.

CRESTON, March 7 — An Afton man has been arrested by Creston Police on a warrant for charges relating to fraudulent practice and tampering with records. Authorities say on Friday morning around 10 AM, year-old Charles Blakeslee of Afton was arrested at the Union County Law Enforcement Center in Creston on a Union County Warrant.

Blakeslee was charged with Fraudulent Practice in the 1st Degree and Tampering with Records. UNION COUNTY, March 6 — Local law enforcement in Creston and Union County are reporting the disappearance of a juvenile.

Officials say Boyer could possibly be wearing shorts and either a black hoodie or mustard colored jacket. The juvenile has been missing since Sunday night, possibly in the southwest portion of Union County. Casey Berlau, who visited the Newsmakers program last week.

Berlau says the big move to the new facility should occur immediately after school lets out in just under three months. Construction crews had mostly all exterior building work done before the cold blast that hit Iowa in December.

Now into March, Berlau says good progress has been made inside. General mechanical work is still on the to-do list. DES MOINES, March 6 — Southwestern Community College SWCC students Rebekah Kroese, of Lenox, Selena Sampson of Creston, and Ana Vasquez, of Osceola, were honored as members of the All-Iowa Academic Team during a recognition ceremony held March 1, at the Embassy Suites in Des Moines. Kroese, a graduate of Lenox High School, is majoring in psychology.

Following her time at SWCC, she plans to transfer to Simpson College in Indianola. Sampson, a graduate of Creston High School, is majoring in nursing. Upon graduation from SWCC, Vasquez plans to transfer to Buena Vista University. The final draft has been completed and now awaits approval by the Board. Dennis Brown, Chairman of the Union County Board of Supervisors, says the reason for the drop is fairly simple.

One portion of the budget that may catch the eye is the portion for mental health, which shows a drop of over 32 percent.

Each of the four individual counties no longer fund it themselves. Another drastic drop lies in the capital projects category, which shows a 26 percent fall. For the last few years, the county has been paying off debt for a bean plant. Brown says the county continues to be in a better financial position every passing year. We do that by taxing the property taxpayers of Union COunty to do so. Every year, the compensation board recommends a specific wage increase for county employees.

On the other hand, health insurance rates for county employees will be increasing by 3 percent, with each employee paying an additional 10 percent of their share for insurance.

Brown says, every year, the board tries to take it as easy on the taxpayers of Union County as possible. People need to be able to budget that way for themselves that — you know — taxes are going to go up a little bit, probably, but not so dramatically.

CRESTON, March 3 — One of the largest annual events in Creston is tomorrow. Malachy Foundation is presenting the 24 th Annual St. Malachy Gala Dinner and Fundraiser Auction. Lora Pellman with the foundation says it was organized in with the goal of keeping the school running for many years to come. Pellman says the St. Malachy Foundation is different from the PTO organization, which mainly aims to fund specific events throughout the year.

The public auction will be run by West and Frey Auctioneers. Some of the items Saturday will include baskets, put together by St. Concert packages, trip packages, tickets to Iowa and Iowa State football games are just some of the other items up for auction as well.

Pellman says one will be for a Smart TV. And what event is not complete without food? We also have cordon bleu, loaded mashed potatoes, corn and green beans, a cole slaw fruit salad. Creston Police reported Wednesday that year-old Julian Allison of Creston was arrested on West Adair St. Allison was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Sell or Manufacture — Methamphetamine over 5 grams. Tuesday afternoon, Union County Friends of 4-H, Inc. The second building, a steel frame cattle barn, would be placed where the existing show arena sits. The planned fairground renovations come on the heels of increased participation in Union County Fair activities over the last few years.

According to Union County youth and outreach coordinator Haley Jones, 4-H enrollment has increased 35 percent sincewith more than members this year. That increased participation has highlighted the very-limited housing space for show animals, as well as the need to replace overall aging facilities.
